July 2, 2010

I took the dogs for a walk across the road and spotted butterflies on some of the wildflowers in the field.  They were beautiful.  I took the dogs back home – grabbed the camera + Keira (she loves butterflies!) and went back over.

I am pretty sure this is an Eastern  Tiger Swallowtail yellow.

I am looking forward to getting back over there for some more pics!

I just love the way the Goldfinch brightens everything up!

I haven’t seen any Hairy Woodpeckers for awhile so this was a nice surprise!

The juvenile almost came on deck!  It kept going going in the bushes below the deck and then would swoop up but fly away.  Soon — I just know it!!!  🙂

I am excited to see a lot of birds drinking from the bath!  I ordered some goodies from Duncraft that should be arriving soon — one of them a hanging birdbath/feeder.

Unfortunately when I got home from work and went out on the deck to fill the feeders I saw a dead bird.  It looks like an American Tree Sparrow.  It was right under the kitchen window so my husband thinks it flew into the window.  It sucked.  I hope nothing like that happens again!

UPDATE:  After posting on fb B and B someone said it looked like a female Rose Breasted Grosbeak.  I looked @ some pics and it might have been.  I thought it looked bigger than a sparrow.  Here is the pic — let me know what you think.  Sorry for sharing something so awful!  I have only seen the male Rose Breasted Grosbeaks so this really sucks if this is how I 1st encountered it.

On a happier note:  I hope everyone has a wonderful 4th of July weekend!!
